What a Day!

Today we launched our Health Online Forum, The Health Progressive, in response to President Obama's call to action for health reform. The President's video was stellar, as he clearly articulated his goals and vision for US health reform.

True to form, our team of experts really stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. I am still getting calls complimenting our team, which included Dr Reg McDaniel, Sam Caster, Diane Miller, Dr Mitch Fleisher, Jim Illick and Christine Brandt.

Ways to integrate natural health, eliminate the legal and health care barriers, improve access, were high priority items for our speakers as well as our audience, based on emails I'm receiving.

We had over 200 registrants confirmed for today's event!

Heartfelt thanks to each of you; we've definitely got work to do, but we have made a great start; thanks also to President Obama for encouraging us to make our voices heard!

From the Health Freedom Expo in Long Beach, CA

I'm just returning from the Health Freedom Expo where I spoke on the Transformation of US HealthCare; wonderful group of people attending and participating; some clear common themes-

1.) We will need to be very proactive taking care of our health in months and years ahead; we will be able to rely less and less on outside parties or health plans to do it for us

2.) We will need to work hard to preserve our health freedoms in days ahead- we need to have access to health products and services that meet our individual needs; we cannot accept any 'cookie cutter' approach to our health- either with conventional medicine or natural health products and services

3.) We need to adopt a 'wellness' mindset and build in healthy habits that will help prevent the onset of disease; if we do need medications, we must integrate taking meds with a healthy lifestyle and healthy life habits.

Long Beach was wonderful; time for some morning walks and moments of rest and rejuvination!

More to come....

Thanks for the breath of fresh air; being on the front lines daily with patients speaks volumes for the need of an army of primary care docs in all sectors- public, private from all walks of life. There is a critical shortage.

We also need to focus on health- and prevention of illness- if we are ever going to be able to keep the U.S Health Care Titanic from sinking.

This shift will take every one of us outside our comfort zones but will be the life preserver that this health care system needs.

All the fancy technology will mean nothing when Medicare costs deplete our Social Security reserves and truly bankrupt our nation.

I'm all for technology, efficiency and sound electronic records, but this is all "icing on the cake"; let's regroup and get back to basics. Primary care needs to play a crucial role in this process of integrating wellness, prevention and early intervention.

Thanks for listening.

We Won! now what's next.....

A huge victory for Health Freedom at www.change.org ; Citizen voters chose Health Freedom in the top 10 of all issues facing Americans; issues were presented yesterday to a member of the Obama Transition team yesterday at the Washington Press Club.

First, a moment to thank all who voted and for the past weeks have mobilized support for Health Freedom online; also thanks to Dr Rima Libow and her husband of Natural Solutions Foundation, who passionately mobilized voters for this Health Freedom victory.

We must, however, stay tuned to the upcoming health reform dialogues and debates; conventional medicine, by and large, does not acknowledge or support health freedom- not yet, anyway. Millions of Americans want access to care that includes the freedom to chose natural health, either alone, or with conventional health care. This will have profound implications in the health reform debates in the next weeks and months.

What to do:  Stay tuned- continue to share your ideas and concerns on www.change.org

Look for updates on www.change.gov

We can- and must- make our voices heard!

Read My Blog on Huffington Post 01/01/09:

One way everyone on this blog could make their voice heard is to vote for Health Freedom
on www.change.org - in fact, Health Freedom was voted in the Top 3 of health care issues
in America
Let's make Health Freedom #1

Please go to www.change.org and vote for Health Freedom in the Health care section
of the site- voting is from Jan 5-15, 2009

If we stay focused on the things we can do to change our world for the better, there
are no limits to the good we can - and will- accomplish-and our world will be a much better place

Hope for Health Care

I recently had the privilege of hearing Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado at the recent Health Care Summit held in Denver, CO on Friday, December 5, 2008; Senator Salazar shared his experiences on his Health care Tour where he visited 31 Colorado communities and heard real stories from real people about their experiences- and challenges- with the current health care system.

In addition, Senator Salazar introduced Senator Tom Daschle, the keynote speaker. Sen.Daschle is President Elect Obama's main representative coordinating health reform solutions. Senator Daschle's speech, besides being very inspiring, offered real hope for health reform. He announced that citizens with potential solutions to the U.S. health care crisis may provide their feedback on www.change.gov

Friends, I already have friends and colleagues who have submitted feedback- and gotten responses from Senator Daschle's office! Regardless of your political affiliation- health- and health care - affects us all! Who better than we, and our family and friends who have accessed care in the US health care system, to provide meaningful input from legislators who are willing to listen- and asking for our ideas for solutions! Thank you, Senator Daschle, Senator Salazar and President elect Obama for including us- we the people- as part of the solution for US health care today.

Making It Happen

Topic: Health Reform of course!

Mother Knows Best!

Having worked with families for years, it amazes me how well parents know their children. Yes, exceptions exist, but by and large, when a parent brings their child to the doctor's office, that parent knows their child better than the health care system ever could.

So why, in health reform dialogues, are parents not included? For that matter, why are family members not included, as well as the patients themselves?

The U.S. health care system was designed to serve us, the American people. Sounds like it is time for us to take back the system for which it was created. Having worked with patients and families for years, I know they can do a better job!
